Mia - Accounting Automation Software
I designed the UI/UX and built the design system for an innovative accounting automation software that utilizes robotic process automation (RPA) to streamline financial operations. This system automates complex, repetitive tasks such as bank reconciliation, payroll processing, and financial reporting.

My focus was on creating an intuitive user interface and ensuring the user experience was seamless, allowing accounting professionals to interact with the software efficiently. The design system provided a consistent visual identity across all modules, improving usability and user engagement.

BACKGROUND
Accounting professionals often face repetitive, time-consuming tasks that can hinder productivity and increase the risk of errors. To solve this, we developed Mia, an automation software powered by Robotic Process Automation (RPA), designed to streamline processes such as bank reconciliation, payroll, and financial reporting. The goal was to create a user-friendly platform that would increase operational efficiency and allow professionals to focus on strategic financial management.
MY ROLE
I led the end-to-end UI/UX design process and built a scalable design system for Mia. The project began with desk research and benchmarking to understand the core needs and pain points of accounting professionals. Based on these findings, I created wireframes and interactive prototypes for early user validation. In the second phase, I delivered the final user interface and developed a comprehensive design system to ensure consistency across all modules. My work focused on clarity, usability, and enabling seamless interactions with complex automation features.

ACHIEVEMENTS
✓ Completed user research, wireframing, prototyping, and UI delivery in just two months.
✓ Built a robust design system, ensuring visual and functional consistency across all RPA features.
✓ Delivered a user-centered interface that improved workflow efficiency and automated key accounting tasks.

Challenge
Accounting professionals often face a high volume of repetitive and time-consuming tasks such as bank reconciliation, payroll processing, and monthly reporting. These processes are not only tedious but also prone to human error, especially when performed manually across different systems and spreadsheets.

The challenge was to design a user-friendly interface for Mia, an automation software that leverages Robotic Process Automation (RPA) to streamline these operations. The goal was to translate complex financial workflows into an intuitive, efficient experience enabling users to schedule, track, and manage accounting automations with clarity and confidence.
Additionally, the solution needed to be scalable, visually consistent across modules, and accessible to users with varying levels of tech-savviness, all within a tight delivery timeline of just three months.

Research & Discovery
The discovery phase began with desk research and competitive benchmarking, focusing on existing accounting tools and automation platforms to identify usability standards, feature gaps, and design opportunities.

Throughout the research process, I also participated in frequent meetings with stakeholders and the tech team to align business goals, technical constraints, and user needs. These collaborative sessions were essential to define the software's scope, core functionalities, and priorities.

To ensure a smooth and organized workflow, we agreed on using GitHub’s Kanban board to manage and track all design and development tasks. This enabled full visibility for the team, streamlined communication, and allowed for incremental delivery throughout the three-month total timeline.

These findings guided to informed early design decisions, ensuring Mia would meet both technical requirements and real-world expectations. I translated insights into low and high-fidelity wireframes, which were shared with stakeholders for early validation before moving into the final UI phase.
User Flow & Wireframes
Based on the research insights and stakeholder input, I mapped out the core user flows to support the most critical interactions within Mia — including scheduling automations, tracking execution history, managing user permissions, and viewing performance dashboards.
The goal was to minimize cognitive load by creating a logical, intuitive navigation structure that mirrored the way accounting professionals approach their workflows. Key flows included:
KEY FLOWS
-
Authentication and Access Control: Login with validation feedback and different user permission levels.
-
Automation Scheduling: Creating and managing automated routines such as bank reconciliation.
-
Execution History: A visual log with filtering options for past automation results.
-
Dashboard Overview: Real-time display of performance metrics and system activity.
-
Settings & Permissions: Configuration of access roles and platform behavior.
LOW-FIDELITY WIREFRAMES
With these flows defined, I created a full set of low-fidelity wireframes to validate layout ideas and information hierarchy. These wireframes were reviewed and refined through feedback from stakeholders and developers.
Once validated, I translated them into high-fidelity prototypes, applying early versions of the design system to test the interface with realistic interactions and visual elements. This iterative process helped ensure clarity, efficiency, and alignment with both user needs and technical feasibility.

Design System
To ensure consistency across the platform and support future scalability, I created a comprehensive design system tailored to the needs of the Mia interface.
The system included a complete set of UI components, such as buttons, inputs, tags, alerts, tables, and navigation elements — all designed to be modular, accessible, and easily reused throughout the application.

✓ Color palette with clear contrast and hierarchy to support usability
✓ Typography scale optimized for clarity and readability
✓ Spacing and layout guidelines to create rhythm and visual balance
✓ States and interactions for hover, disabled, error, and success modes
✓ Icon library consistent with the product’s tone and function
The design system served as a single source of truth for both the design and development teams, helping reduce inconsistencies and speed up implementation. It also made it easier to onboard new collaborators and support new feature rollouts in a cohesive way.
Results
The Mia project was successfully delivered on time within a tight three-month schedule, from initial research to final UI delivery. Thanks to strong collaboration between design, development, and stakeholders, we were able to align quickly, iterate efficiently, and maintain a clear focus on user needs.

The final product provided accounting professionals with an intuitive platform that automated previously manual processes. The interface was well-received for its clarity, usability, and visual consistency, and it met all the functional requirements defined at the start of the project.

As a result of the team's dedication and smooth execution, we not only completed the project within scope and timeline, but also received a performance bonus, recognizing the quality and punctuality of our delivery.
